Measured by Clometrix

NEAR Protocol's volatility ratio was 2.03x, against 1.24x for a typical Initial Claims release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 4.71x, against a typical 1.63x. That is a strong reaction by this release's own standard. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How NEAR Protocol moved

NEAR Protocol was at $4.560 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was 0.22% lower, and an hour later 0.44% higher. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 3.07% of its price, against 7.02% in the hour before.

The release

Released by the Department of Labor on 25 March 2021 at 8:30 AM EDT. Initial Jobless Claims fell to 627K for the week ending 20th Mar, from 699K in the week ending 13th Mar.

It arrived at the same moment as Gross Domestic Product Report and Continued Jobless Claims, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Initial Claims releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved NEAR Protocol less than those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.05x across 91, against 1.32x across 198. This one was not within two weeks of a Fed decision. Its own ratio of 2.03x compares with 1.32x for those, so it moved the price more than its circumstances alone would suggest.
