How Polkadot reacted to Initial Jobless Claims on 24 December 2025

The short answer

Hardly a reaction. In the 15 minutes after the figure came out, Polkadot's price swung 1.01 times as much as in a normal 15 minutes that day. For an Initial Claims release, 1.32 times is usual. An hour later the price was unchanged.

The release

Released by the Department of Labor on 24 December 2025 at 8:30 AM EST. Initial Jobless Claims fell to 214K for the week ending 20th Dec, from 224K in the week ending 13th Dec.

It arrived at the same moment as Continued Jobless Claims, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.

Measured by Clometrix

Polkadot's volatility ratio was 1.01x, against 1.32x for a typical Initial Claims release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 1.25x, against a typical 1.54x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How Polkadot moved

Polkadot was at $1.730 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was unchanged, and an hour later unchanged. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 1.16% of its price, against 0.58% in the hour before.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Initial Claims releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved Polkadot about as much as those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.41x across 93, against 1.27x across 208. This one was not within two weeks of a Fed decision. Its own ratio of 1.01x compares with 1.27x for those, so it moved the price less than its circumstances would suggest.

How it compares

Across 301 Initial Claims releases since 2021, Polkadot's usual price swing is 1.32x. This one was 0.76 times the usual.
