The release

Released by the Department of Labor on 29 April 2021 at 8:30 AM EDT. Initial Jobless Claims rose to 574K for the week ending 24th Apr, from 566K in the week ending 17th Apr.

It arrived at the same moment as Gross Domestic Product Report and Continued Jobless Claims, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.

Measured by Clometrix

NEAR Protocol's volatility ratio was 0.66x, against 1.24x for a typical Initial Claims release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 0.55x, against a typical 1.63x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How NEAR Protocol moved

NEAR Protocol was at $5.060 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was 0.4% higher, and an hour later 1.38% lower. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 2.17% of its price, against 1.58% in the hour before.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Initial Claims releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved NEAR Protocol less than those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.05x across 91, against 1.32x across 198. This one came out the day after the Federal Reserve's 28 April rate decision. Its own ratio of 0.66x compares with 1.32x for those, so it moved the price less than its circumstances would suggest.

How it compares

Across 289 Initial Claims releases since 2021, NEAR Protocol's usual price swing is 1.24x. This one was 0.53 times the usual.
