Measured by Clometrix

XRP's volatility ratio was 1.99x, against 1.18x for a typical Initial Claims release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 1.78x, against a typical 1.54x. That is a strong reaction by this release's own standard. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How XRP moved

XRP was at $2.8300 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was unchanged, and an hour later unchanged. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 0.71% of its price, against 0.35% in the hour before.

The release

Released by the Department of Labor on 9 October 2025 at 8:30 AM EDT. Initial Jobless Claims rose to 233K for the week ending 4th Oct, from 225K in the week ending 27th Sep.

It arrived at the same moment as Continued Jobless Claims, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Initial Claims releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved XRP about as much as those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.14x across 87, against 1.20x across 193. This one was not within two weeks of a Fed decision. Its own ratio of 1.99x compares with 1.20x for those, so it moved the price more than its circumstances alone would suggest.

Its record

Across 280 Initial Claims releases since 2021, XRP's median volatility ratio is 1.18x.

How it compares

Across 280 Initial Claims releases since 2021, XRP's usual price swing is 1.18x. This one was 1.69 times the usual.
