The release

Released by the Department of Labor on 11 March 2021 at 8:30 AM EST. Initial Jobless Claims fell to 693K for the week ending 6th Mar, from 704K in the week ending 27th Feb.

It arrived at the same moment as Continued Jobless Claims, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.

Measured by Clometrix

TRON's volatility ratio was 0.66x, against 1.33x for a typical Initial Claims release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 1.04x, against a typical 1.53x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How TRON moved

TRON was at $0.0511 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was unchanged, and an hour later 0.12% higher. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 0.94% of its price, against 1.1% in the hour before.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Initial Claims releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved TRON about as much as those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.36x across 94, against 1.31x across 209. This one came out 6 days before the Federal Reserve's 17 March rate decision. Its own ratio of 0.66x compares with 1.36x for those, so it moved the price less than its circumstances would suggest.

How it compares

Across 303 Initial Claims releases since 2021, TRON's usual price swing is 1.33x. This one was 0.49 times the usual.
