The release

Released by the Department of Labor on 5 June 2025 at 8:30 AM EDT. Initial Jobless Claims rose to 248K for the week ending 31st May, from 239K in the week ending 24th May.

It arrived at the same moment as International Trade Balance in Goods and Services, International Imports in Goods and Services, International Exports in Goods and Services and Continued Jobless Claims, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.

Measured by Clometrix

Litecoin's volatility ratio was 1.26x, against 1.39x for a typical Initial Claims release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 2.24x, against a typical 1.59x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How Litecoin moved

Litecoin was at $88.43 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was 0.36% higher, and an hour later 0.41% higher. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 0.92% of its price, against 1.2% in the hour before.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Initial Claims releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved Litecoin about as much as those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.42x across 94, against 1.35x across 209. This one came out 13 days before the Federal Reserve's 18 June rate decision. Its own ratio of 1.26x compares with 1.42x for those, about what its circumstances would suggest.

How it compares

Across 303 Initial Claims releases since 2021, Litecoin's usual price swing is 1.39x. This one was 0.91 times the usual.
