The release

Released by the Bureau of Census on 24 April 2025 at 8:30 AM EDT. Durable Goods Orders came in at 7.6% for March 2025, against 1.0% in February 2025. Durable goods orders are rising faster than before.

Measured by Clometrix

Aave's volatility ratio was 1.25x, against 1.37x for a typical Durable Orders release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 0.77x, against a typical 1.48x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Durable Orders releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved Aave more than those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.47x across 20, against 1.26x across 49. This one came out 13 days before the Federal Reserve's 7 May rate decision. Its own ratio of 1.25x compares with 1.47x for those, so it moved the price less than its circumstances would suggest.

How it compares

What is Durable Goods Orders?

The U.S. Census Bureau publishes the Durable Goods Orders report every month. Durable goods orders reflect new orders placed with domestic manufacturers for delivery of long-lasting manufactured goods (durable goods) in the near term or future.
