ETH Volatility Analysis for Personal Income, 30th April 2026

Data Analysis

The release

Released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis on 30 April 2026 at 8:30 AM EDT. The Personal Income and Outlays came in at 0.6% for March 2026, against -0.1% in February 2026. Personal income is rising again, after a fall.

It arrived at the same moment as Personal Consumption Expenditures, Core Personal Consumption Expenditures, Initial Jobless Claims, Continued Jobless Claims and Gross Domestic Product Report, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.

Measured by Clometrix

Ethereum's volatility ratio was 0.82x, against 1.80x for a typical Personal Income release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 0.97x, against a typical 2.15x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How Ethereum moved

Ethereum was at $2,267.13 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was 0.13% lower, and an hour later 0.35% lower. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 0.51% of its price, against 0.84% in the hour before.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Personal Income releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved Ethereum about as much as those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.86x across 18, against 1.77x across 51. This one came out the day after the Federal Reserve's 29 April rate decision. Its own ratio of 0.82x compares with 1.77x for those, so it moved the price less than its circumstances would suggest.

What it means

Ethereum registered a quiet reaction to the Personal Income release and the cluster of data that arrived with it. Volatility reached only 0.82x of a normal quarter hour that day, well below the 1.80x median recorded for Personal Income prints since 2021. Volume showed no lift at all, finishing at 0.97x against the usual 2.15x. The price itself moved just 0.13 percent lower in the first fifteen minutes and 0.35 percent lower after an hour, while the high-to-low range actually narrowed to 0.51 percent from 0.84 percent in the preceding hour.

Personal income itself printed 0.6 percent for March after the prior month’s -0.1 percent. Yet the combined data still left the market largely unmoved, consistent with Clometrix classification of the event as quiet.

Timing relative to Federal Reserve decisions offers one lens on the outcome. This print landed the day after the 29 April rate decision and 47 days before the next scheduled meeting. Across prior Personal Income releases, those falling inside the two-week window before a decision produced a median volatility ratio of 1.86x, little different from the 1.77x median seen at other times. The 0.82x ratio observed here therefore fell short of what the surrounding calendar might have implied.

Traders watching the next Personal Income print may note that proximity to a rate decision has not historically altered Ethereum’s typical response magnitude. The record shows only that releases of this type have tended to produce modest price action when they fall outside the immediate pre-decision window, without indicating whether any single future release will follow the same pattern.

About Personal Income and Outlays

Personal Income measures the change in the total value of income received from all sources by consumers. Income is closely correlated with consumer spending, which accounts for a majority of overall economic activity.
