Released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis on 13 March 2026 at 8:30 AM EDT. The Personal Income and Outlays came in at 0.4% for January 2026, against 0.3% in December 2025. Personal income is rising faster than before.
It arrived at the same moment as Durable Goods Orders, Durable Goods Orders Excluding Transportation, Gross Domestic Product Report, Personal Consumption Expenditures and Core Personal Consumption Expenditures, so the reaction measured on this page belongs to all of them together.
Ethereum's volatility ratio was 0.84x, against 1.80x for a typical Personal Income release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 1.31x, against a typical 2.15x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.
Ethereum was at $2,130.16 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was unchanged, and an hour later 2.48% higher. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 3.37% of its price, against 0.94% in the hour before.
Since 2021, Personal Income releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved Ethereum about as much as those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.86x across 18, against 1.77x across 51. This one came out 5 days before the Federal Reserve's 18 March rate decision. Its own ratio of 0.84x compares with 1.86x for those, so it moved the price less than its circumstances would suggest.
Ethereum registered a quiet reaction to the Personal Income release, posting a volatility ratio of 0.84x against the 1.80x median recorded for this event type since 2021. Volume rose only 1.31x, below the 2.15x typical reading. The market therefore registered no meaningful response even though the print arrived five days before the March Federal Reserve decision.
Price action stayed contained in the first quarter hour, with Ethereum unchanged from its $2,130.16 opening level. The subsequent hour produced a 3.37 percent high-to-low range, wider than the 0.94 percent span recorded beforehand, yet still insufficient to lift the overall volatility ratio above the quiet threshold.
Personal Income releases that fall inside the two-week window before a Fed meeting have historically generated a median volatility ratio of 1.86x for Ethereum. This instance fell well short of that benchmark, indicating that proximity to the policy decision alone did not generate the usual sensitivity. Traders monitoring the next Personal Income print may therefore note that timing relative to the Federal Reserve does not guarantee elevated movement when other conditions keep the market subdued.
Personal Income measures the change in the total value of income received from all sources by consumers. Income is closely correlated with consumer spending, which accounts for a majority of overall economic activity.
