Released by the Bureau of Census, Bureau of Economic Analysis on 4 December 2020 at 8:30 AM EST. The International Exports in Goods and Services rose to $185.9B for October 2020, from $182.5B in September 2020.

Ethereum's volatility ratio was 0.99x, against 1.25x for a typical International Exports release since 2021. Its volume ratio was 0.94x, against a typical 1.41x. Under 1.5x is not a reaction at all: the market barely noticed this release. Both compare the quarter hour of the release with an ordinary quarter hour that same day, where 1.00x is no change: volatility is how far the price ranged, volume how much traded.

How Ethereum moved

Ethereum was at $590.26 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was 0.14% higher, and an hour later 0.85% higher. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 1.54% of its price, against 0.98% in the hour before.

What made it matter

Since 2021, International Exports releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved Ethereum less than those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.14x across 23, against 1.39x across 47. This one came out 12 days before the Federal Reserve's 16 December rate decision. Its own ratio of 0.99x compares with 1.14x for those, so it moved the price less than its circumstances would suggest.
