Released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on 17 February 2023 at 8:30 AM EST. The Import Price Index came in at -0.4% for January 2023, against 0.1% in December 2022. Import prices are falling, after a rise.

How Cardano moved

Cardano was at $0.3963 when the figure came out. Fifteen minutes later it was 0.13% higher, and an hour later 0.33% higher. Its high-to-low range in the hour after was 0.66% of its price, against 0.58% in the hour before.

What made it matter

Since 2021, Import Prices releases in the two weeks before a Fed decision have moved Cardano less than those at other times: a median volatility ratio of 1.00x across 27, against 1.20x across 42. This one was not within two weeks of a Fed decision. Its own ratio of 1.17x compares with 1.20x for those, about what its circumstances would suggest.
